Mission Statement:

The mission of Distinct Design by Melissa Swanson is to produce unique landscapes that reflect the client’s individual interests and tastes, while educating the client through the design process, helping them gain the greatest level of appreciation for their new landscape.

About Me

Originally from Stafford, Virginia, I moved to Louisville Kentucky in 2004 where I worked with Bramer Brothers Landscaping, a reputable and long-standing landscape design and build firm. I have recently relocated to Fredericksburg, Virginia after spending four years in Louisville Kentucky. I have taken my experiences as a landscape designer and project manager to new levels by providing my Fredericksburg, and Northern Virginia clientele with unique and inspiring landscape designs that the do-it-yourselfer can still apply with ease, but I am now offering the option of contracting through my company to install your dream landscape as well.

I am a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Horticulture with a concentration in Landscape Design. I have since added to my repertoire a year of Architectural CADD courses. Through this education I have the ability to bring your average landscape to life through design methods including CADD and Board Drafting, as well as through the use of Digital Perspective Photographs.

My professional presentations visually take the design from concept to reality, demonstrating what your dream landscape will look like before you ever break ground.
